Fan-made Wikipedia for video game adopts community-driven guidelines.
For years, Dwarf Fortress players have relied on a wiki edited entirely by its own users.
Initially, there were few formal rules beyond the ordinary wiki etiquette. People tend to assume a shared vision, at first. But as the community grew, disagreements arose about what belonged, and how it should look. Users began creating style guides. Arguments ensued on the talk pages. An exhaustive policy emerged for artifact descriptions: required stats, permissible adjectives, order of presentation. It felt very important. Now, that policy is just another page in the wiki's history. The community evolved its own solutions.
Even now, dedicated players are refining the artifact description policy, adjusting to the latest version.
